Frutiger Font Family (by Adobe)

In 1968, Adrian Frutiger was commissioned to develop a signage system suited to the architecture of the new Charles de Gaulle Airport outside Paris. His final design for the client, implemented in 1975, is a simple, clean, robust sans serif type that is highly legible. In 1976, Frutiger completed the family for the Stempel foundry. Despite its original intention as airport signage, Frutiger has a universal quality that makes it appropriate for many applications; a favorite typeface among advertising agencies, it is equally successful in text and display work.

ITC Avant Garde Gothic Font Family (by Adobe)

Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase based their 1970 design of ITC Avant Garde Gothic on Lubalin’s logo for Avant Garde Magazine. The condensed fonts were designed for the International Typeface Corporation in 1974 by Ed Benguiat. ITC Avant Garde Gothic is a geometric sans serif type, that is, the basic shapes were made with a compass and T-square; the design is reminiscent of the work from the 1920s German Bauhaus movement. Letterforms built of circles and clean lines are highly effective for headlines and short texts. The condensed faces have the same modern look, while retaining legibility in lengthier texts.

Klavika Font Family

Klavika is a flexible family of sans serifs for editorial and identity design. Features such as small caps, true italics, extended language support and multiple numeral styles make Klavika an ideal workhorse typeface. It is also popular for its use of Facebook’s main logo.

• The fonts Why Square, Just Square and DesignerRound, Latin and Cyrillic versions were created during the bombardment of Yugoslavia in 1999. It started when my son Nikola, student of Academy of Applied Arts (at the time) asked me to draw letters from his sketch for some logotype. It was very good and I realized that it could be more than logotype. As there was no other work, I began the Square project.

• I finished Why Square in three weights, the war went on, so I made Initials and SmallCaps variants, the war went on, so I did the fourth weight, the war went on, so I did all the four weights in the Cyrillic variant, the war went on, so I did four weights of the Just Square font (which I didn't plan in the beginning), the war went on, so I did the same in the Cyrillic variant, the war went on, then it struck me that I was annoyed when a font had only four weights so I did four more in both the Latin and the Cyrillic variants, the war went on and I realized that it would be good for Why Square to have its alternative in the DesignerRound font, i.e. four weights again in three variants plus the Cyrillic, and when I was nearly finished, the war ended.
